In the spring of 2009, I was approached by my former architectural design studio professor about contributing the design of a rain garden to Northside Elementary School in Ann Arbor. The rain garden was to be used as a focal point for the school's curriculum surrounding sustainability and to activate a landscape that was being eroded by rain water runoff.
Along with my former classmates, we proposed this system of vegetated terraces to graduate a steep slope at the edge of an outdoor patio.
